CoinTalk Members Discuss VaultBox's $1,650 Dynasty Vault Box

A $1,650 "Dynasty Vault Box"

The member chrissy1955 wrote that they had received an e-mail from VaultBox about its latest offering, the Dynasty Vault Box, and that the cost was $1,650. In the thread, posters also called the purchase a "raffle ticket."

chrissy1955 wrote that they had taken part in the program a couple of times, did very well once and not so well the second time, but were still significantly ahead. The member added that $1,650 was well past their limit.

mrweaseluv wrote that they got the same e-mail and that one week's warning was not enough time for a price like that.

The Listed Hits and the Payout

KBBPLL asked whether the five "red core hits" shown on the company's site were the top prizes, listed in descending order of value. The member noted that the fifth-place instant offer was only $6,000, which did not seem like much payout for a $1,650 "raffle ticket," and said they did not see a full list like the previous offerings had.

chrissy1955 replied that they thought buyers had to check back at the website for the distribution list. The member wrote that the previous offering (written in the post as "$460,00") did not have enough quality coins to risk that amount.

BuffaloHunter wrote that the distribution list for this offering was not out yet. The member said past offerings seemed consistent in that the worst outcome was about half the buy-in, and that half the buy-in on this one should be a nice coin.

The Odds, and the Lottery Comparison

Dafydd wrote that they once ran the odds while considering a purchase. Comparing the odds of high-value and low-value wins, the member found it not so attractive, and said one could roughly work out that the promoter was grossing a lot. The member wrote that the odds were better than a lottery but there was no guarantee of getting one's money back, putting it at hundreds to one against. Dafydd added that the bait for collectors is acquiring something normally outside their budget, and said they could think of better things to do with $1,650 for their collection.

Burton Strauss III repeated the view that it is an illegal lottery.

Members' Experiences

mrweaseluv wrote that they had generally had good luck with VaultBox: of the boxes they had bought into, most (four or five) broke about even, two were real wins and one was a major loss. The member said they had also tried "mystery/rip it offers" from a few other companies and those were all poor, the worst being an "ms61 22 peace dollar" (as written in the post) received for $200 in a pack or box supposedly made up of key-date coins. The member said that even the losing VaultBox set left them with some nice coins, but that until the full distribution list appears, this looked like one of the company's worst offers and they did not expect to buy in.

Vess1 wrote that they like VaultBox items but tend to buy what they want on the aftermarket rather than take the risk, and that this one was way too high to risk. The member said the company seemed to have a new release about once a month and that the boxes would not sell out instantly if they were not popular.

Pricing and the "MSRP" Label

KBBPLL pointed to the term "MSRP" on VaultBox's series page (https://vaultbox.com/series-info/dynasty-2026/). The member wrote that "suggested retail price" implies the boxes will be sold elsewhere at some other price, and recalled that another site had offered them last time, asking whether it was APMEX. The member added that if they want a specific coin they will buy it, and that they are never going to roll the dice for one.

BuffaloHunter wrote that they thought this was the most expensive offering yet for a single coin, and that they were saving their coin funds this year and would not be doing any of these. chrissy1955 wondered whether the company was seeing what the market would bear, noting that its prices had been all over the board.

Collecting Nut wrote that they had never bought a VaultBox and never would, and that the price confirmed it. lordmarcovan posted a link for those curious about the details and said they would never be a buyer.
