NumisMaster Database Sold to NGC and PMG: What 60 Years of Pricing Data Transfer Means
Active Interest Media has sold the NumisMaster pricing database to NGC and PMG, two major numismatic authentication leaders, marking a significant consolidation in rare coin market infrastructure. While Numismatic News and Bank Note Reporter will continue publishing pricing guides, the underlying price intelligence now sits within the grading ecosystem. This structural shift signals growing vertical integration in the numismatics industry.
The sale of the NumisMaster database to NGC and PMG has transferred price-information stewardship to two of the hobby's largest certification firms. The publisher of Numismatic News stated that this transition preserves the mission of reliable reporting to collectors that has sustained the publication for more than sixty years.
Numismatic News, World Coin News, and Bank Note Reporter will continue publication under Active Interest Media. The price tables that appear in each title remain unchanged. Numismatic News publishes quarterly coin market prices; Bank Note Reporter publishes monthly banknote market prices. Both will draw from the NGC and PMG database going forward.
"Our goal is to deliver timely and accurate information so collectors can make informed decisions," the editorial team wrote.
The publisher acknowledged the role NumisMaster played in the collecting community while expressing confidence that NGC and PMG—firms recognized globally for authentication, grading, and research—will advance the database's utility. The transition succeeded because collectors had supported and trusted the source.
