New Banknotes for Solomon Islands, Eastern Caribbean
The Solomon Islands has issued a new $50 polymer banknote. The note commemorates the 50th anniversary of the nation's founding. The Eastern Caribbean Central Bank also plans a new series without Queen Elizabeth II's portrait.
The Solomon Islands has issued a new $50 banknote to commemorate the 50th anniversary of its founding.
According to an August 21, 2026, report from Numismatic News, the commemorative banknote follows the design of the circulating $50 note but features polymer technology and updated security features. As a limited issue, it is seen as a collector's item.
The Eastern Caribbean Central Bank is also preparing a new series of banknotes to honor the heritage of the eight member countries of the Eastern Caribbean Currency Union.
For the first time, the new designs will not feature a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. They will instead use portraits of national heroes and prominent figures from each country.
